She's So Free
03:06
|
|||
A thousand suns all shimmer in the night sky
A breath of mountain blossoms in the air
Twirling ‘round in rapture
As the mean streets fade below her
Oh, she’s so free
The hundred voices finally fallen silent
The cutting blade abandoned in a drawer
Standing with eyes open
As the demons melt before her
Oh, she’s so free
Cruising Fifty-Seven in the sunshine
Treasure found along the less-tread path
Smiling at my softness
As my world revolves around her
Oh, she’s so free

Coming Into Shore
03:55
|
|||
The North Atlantic Ocean
Is a strange and lonely highway
Work is done, you stare out at the night
And smoke a cigarette. Man, it’s freezing out on deck
When a flickering horizon comes in sight
So wake a mate and pass around a bottle
This time tomorrow we’ll be warm
We’re coming into shore
A grey and sprawling building
An exit from the highway
Around the lot a fringe of melting snow
To the drone of CNN we sit on chairs for days and then
They tell us that it’s time for you to go
So hear my voice and let your spirit wander
This time tomorrow you’ll be home
We’re coming into shore
The North Atlantic Ocean
Still a strange and lonely highway
Work is done, I stare down from the sky
Some Irish whisky neat, some silly slippers for my feet
Beyond the wing I glimpse the other side
So dim detail and plumb the deeper rhythm
Yeah, this time tomorrow I’ll be…well I don’t know, but I know
We’re coming into shore
And I won’t leave you anymore

The Other Side
03:25
|
|||
Going away, going away
Where how it’s always done won’t bind me
No I can’t stay, you know I can’t stay
I’m getting single stoplights behind me
But you’ve been always there to run to
All the times I’ve had to hide
And when the times say it’s all right
I’m gonna’ meet you on the other side
A funny felt hat, a second-hand coat
Stepping smartly down the Promenade
Happy and fat, letting it float
Looking back from here you know it seems so very odd
How we both know we never said goodbye
Just took a break to salve our pride
But when the times say it’s all right
I’m gonna’ meet you on the other side
Painting pictures in my head leaves me by myself
Strangers in my bed, seems always someone starts to cry
And I could invite my friends down from off the shelf
But they can’t hear me
Going away, you’re going away
I guess it’s my turn to get left behind
I won’t have you stay, won’t ask you to stay
I hope it’s out there what you’re trying to find
But we’ll be calm, yeah we’ll be reasonable
And just maybe take this one in stride
And when the times say it’s all right
I’m gonna’ meet you on the other side
When the times say it’s all right

Too Far For You To Go
03:56
|
|||
And just today I got it
How you held me in the pickup
And my eyes so young and foolish
Never read your wild desire like a big cat in a cage
Or how you’d spin a tender story
But with an edge not compromising
Then you’d spin that wheel and scare us all, a madman in a rage
Just today I got it
How with your daylight quickly fading
Turning back was not an option
And the news from home just brought to mind the weakness you despised
But as the darkness overtook you
And you made your last decision
Could anyone have even seen the question in your eyes?
Oh, there was water down that highway
Yeah, there was shelter on that road
And maybe, with a more astute companion
It might not have been too far for you to go
Oh, there was freedom on that highway
Yeah, second chances down that road
And maybe, with a more astute companion
It might not have been too far for you to go
And now I see you in the nighttime
Begging tales of your adventures
But with the mysteries not revealed before the daylight stems the clues
And now here all I have to offer
For these sins of my omission
Are these few and simple lines and chords thrown out from me to you
Lying in a graveyard
And just today I got it

All Along The Dumpsters
03:10
|
|||
Lady Mouse she lived along the Avenue
In a building that went up before the War
She mostly lived a good life, helped the other mice
And seldom ventured far beyond the building’s door
The old grey rat, his home was in the alley
Running parallel behind the Avenue
He’d run around all night, mostly staying out of sight
Doing rat-like things the way that old rats do
One summer night they found themselves together
The Lady Mouse and the alley-dwelling rat
The details of the meeting aren’t important now
But both their lives were different after that
So she’d sneak out back to sniff around the garbage
And find him always waiting with a smile
They’d stroll together all along the dumpsters
Just the two of them, but only for awhile
And this rodent love it blossomed and it flourished
And they’d keep each other always on their mind
They’d even dare to dream to break away together
Leaving building, alley, dumpsters all behind
Now we know rats and mice aren’t meant to stay together
And it makes it kind of sad to sing the song
But any love so pure and honest, although it might not be forever
It’s never wrong, it’s never wrong, it’s never wrong

My Home Town
03:55
|
|||
Cousin Wally writes a bowling column for the newspaper
Scores and spares and funny stories on the side
He sparked a scandal growing bushes in his house trailer
They took his plants, my uncle nearly died
My home town
And Cousin Leo learned his barber trade in the penitentiary
Now that was not his fault, that woman led him on
And here he’s got his own shop over by the bakery
Get there by nine or all the bread is gone
My home town
Oh I’d love to go back where it’s simple and sweet
Where it’s safe and secure and my life is complete
Stepping through sand-grass and not on some street, oh yeah
Yeah I’d love to go back where it’s simple and sweet
Where it’s safe and secure and my life is complete
Walking through clover and not on concrete, oh yeah
My parents’ lawn boy liked stalking ladies wearing lingerie
Where he found his size we’ll probably never know
After this last time, the judge, I heard he threw the key away
The summer’s coming, guess Dad will have to mow
My home town

Coco Girl
04:23
|
|||
Mobile static, you confirm a place and time
A crowded train as darkness falls
A noisy station bar, a single glass of wine
You focus past your paper on the door
Heading over to the edge again
Hoping no one knows your name
Where the straight lines and the logic get rolled and blown in puffs of smoke
Heading back to find her
Your Coco Girl
A shape appears, a subtle smile and a nod
You pass together through the crowd
A registration form, a key and heavy fob
A bellman leads you down the hall
Heading over to the edge again
Hoping no one knows your name
Where the straight lines and the logic get rolled and blown in puffs of smoke
Standing there beside her
Your Coco Girl
Can anybody step inside you now and tell you what you’re feeling?
Do easy pieces ever finally add up to a whole?
You find a thing that moves you and hope you’re not a moth into a flame
A warm and velvet nest, a breath of sweat and spice
Out of space and out of time
Push it back now, what might be your final price
With a pill to make it last until the dawn
Heading over to the edge again
Hoping no one knows your name
Where the straight lines and the logic get rolled and blown in puffs of smoke
Forever to remember
Your Coco Girl

Remember You
03:34
|
|||
Well it’s a long, long ride
From San Francisco to the Yukon
You’d best be well supplied
Make sure you know which roads to drive on
Take the truck and sell it on arrival
Book an onward flight to somewhere new
And though it’s all that we can do
We’ll remember you
The girls are standing by
All set to help with preparation
Holding their clipboards high
With ballpoints poised to take dictation
You tell us we don’t understand your planning
You shake your head “Where did I find this crew?”
And though it’s all that we can do
We’ll remember you
There’ll be no farewell cries
Memoirs to analyze
No goodbyes
For now we’ll stay behind
Prep our lists and tick our boxes
Search every day to find
Some cause that justifies our losses
Curse our luck as colours run together
Squint our eyes as contrasts fade from view
And though it’s all that we can do
We’ll remember you

Pelican Street
03:48
|
|||
Down on Pelican Street
Friday evenings start at half past four
Down on Pelican Street
Just break a window if you’ve locked the door
Hanging out along the railing we could catch a little buzz
Leave your candy on the table, it could melt right in your ear now
Down on Pelican Street
There’s always room for you to bring one more
Down on Pelican Street
The Professor’s always right on time
Down on Pelican Street
The room is moving while you stand on line
Yeah that’s the kung pao ji ding, extra pepper in the soup
No thank you very much we’ve got our beverage in the bag here
Down on Pelican Street
You’re free to focus on feeling fine
Come along with me after the song you’ll see what I mean
Down on Pelican Street
Down on Pelican Street
You just tune it up and let it fly
Down on Pelican Street
The tubes they’ll keep you warm inside
P2gg in the bathroom, hoisting Kenny up the stairs
Dick asleep beneath a snow drift and Mai Cramer with that blues show
Down on Pelican Street
Nobody talking on the midnight ride
Come along with me after the song you’ll see what I mean
Down on Pelican Street

Asteroid
04:04
|
|||
Sweating in the same grey suit since Tuesday
Propped up on the wall in 30J
Wide awake and rocking through the midnight
Red-eye LAX to JFK
Now glancing through a paper grabbed at check-out
Headline says there’s one new thing to fear
Giant flying space-rock could end life as we know it
Funny how the upside seems more clear
Let the asteroid fall
Haven’t felt the sunshine since September
Visa’s several payments in arrears
Unless re-org dictates changes in direction
This quarter’s action list runs several years
Let the asteroid fall
Oh baby, see me burn on entry
Smell the smoke and feel the fire
Behold the majesty that splits the earth
And resets space and time
And no-one’s ever gonna’ hear this music
Or interview the artist on TV
A little man just wailing to the darkness
Praying for a rock to set him free
Let the asteroid fall
And reset the game
Reset, reset, reset
